Eco-materials refer to materials that have both satisfactory performance and excellent environmental compatibility or materials that can improve the environment conditions. It is required to be compatible to and able to coexist with the environment throughout the entire life cycle from material manufacturing, use, disposal, to recycling. The research progress of eco-environmental materials will help solve a series of problems, such as resource shortage and environmental degradation, and promote sustainable development of social economy.

The Environmental Materials Branch of Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) is a national academic organization composed of institutions as well as scientific and technological researchers engaged in Eco-materials research in the field of materials research in China. The purpose of the society is to unite and organize a majority of scientific and technological researchers in the field of eco-materials in China, and promote the development of Chinese eco-materials science and technology through academic exchanges and other related academic activities; keep pace with materials science and technology development to conduct environmental awareness propaganda and education, promote the professional personnel cultivating in eco-materials field, improve the environmental awareness of material science, and facilitate the eco-materials research and application; carry out international academic exchanges and cooperation to keep improving the academic level and research development capability, and make contributions to efficient utilization of resources and energy, reduction of environmental burden, maintaining of eco-balance, and realization of socio-economic sustainable development.
