Materials analysis and characterization play a crucial role in the design, fabrication, application, and failure processes of materials and components. By studying the composition, structure, properties, and their relationships, one can gain insights into the intrinsic principles which govern the composition-process-structure-property-application relationships of materials. This enables qualitative and quantitative characterization and system design of materials. Currently, materials characterization methods with electron microscopy at their foundation are advancing towards multidimensional, in-situ, and high-resolution directions. Simultaneously, techniques for testing material properties such as mechanical, thermal, electromagnetic, and optical properties are undergoing rapid development from macroscopic to microscopic scales, from single-loading to multi-field coupling, from static to in-situ conditions, and from two-dimensional to multidimensional approaches. Furthermore, artificial intelligence algorithms facilitate rapid and accurate analysis and characterization of materials through data analysis, predictive modeling, and image reconstruction, enabling comprehensive and in-depth understanding. These developments provide the fundamental theories and technological support necessary for a deep understanding of material nature and the design and fabrication of advanced materials. The establishment of this subcommittee aims to integrate existing resources, enhance communication and collaboration among researchers in the field of materials analysis and characterization, promote profound integration between industry, academia, research, and applications, and facilitate interdisciplinary development among fields such as life medicine, physics, chemistry, mechanics, and computer science, etc..
